CE Class- The ABCs of DNA

HealthLINE is offering the CE class "The ABCs of DNA: Unraveling the Mystery of Genetic Information for Consumers" on November 6. 2008, 1:00 - 5:00, following the HealthLINE business meeting. The HealthLINE November meeting will be at the TWU Blagg-Huey Library in Denton.

Podcasting Course offered at Baylor

On August 5, 2008, many HealthLINE members participated in the NN/LM course called "Can You Hear Me Now? How to Make a Podcast." It was held at the Baylor Health Sciences Library and taught by Skikun "KK" Jiang, Technology Coordinator for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, South Central Region.

HealthLINE meets at the VA in Dallas, July 17, 2008

Officers, students, recent grads and long-time professional colleagues all enjoy the chance to visit at HealthLINE meetings.

Many thanks to our long-serving Listserv Coordinator as she retires and transfers the reins. During our meeting we voted to officially add a website to our communication tools. We liked the sample site the committee developed.

We learned all about the work of the Dallas County Medical Examiner's office.

Four HealthLINE "old timers" enjoy getting together.

After the meeting some of us toured the VA's Medical Library. On the way we saw a special piece of artwork designed by Shirley!

We also had a chance to meet some VA ladies who help us frequently!

A number of us travelled by public transit from all over the Metroplex since the VA is located right on the Blue Line. It was a great meeting! Thanks so much to the hostesses for all their work. We hope to see many members at upcoming CE events and at the Nov. 6 meeting at TWU in Denton.

Lancaster runs North and South. It is about half way between I-35 and I-45. Our campus is a couple of blocks north of Loop 12/Ledbetter Dr.

Building 75 on the left side of the map is the Community Center, where we will be holding our meeting.

Parking can be hard to find, but we are hoping that Thursday is not a heavy clinic day.

DART stops right in front of the Medical Center. This is the next to the last stop on the Blue Line. You can connect from the TRE at Union Station, and of course from the Red Line at a couple of stops. A one day pass is $3 (and may be worth it, believe us!).

You can either enter at the main entrance by the DART station and make an immediate left turn to follow the road around to that building, or go east on Ann Arbor from Lancaster and turn right onto the campus, and take another right to drive west past the building to the parking area.

To get to parking lot 1 (there will be more parking places near the Community Center than just west of the building), you must go in the main entrance, all the way "up" the drive, u-turn back down and enter the parking lot midway back down the drive. (This lot is for patients and visitors. We see several thousand patients a day in our outpatient clinic so parking is busy!)

FYI: The Library is on the 3d floor of Building 2 on the south side of the campus.

The NN/LM SCR will be offering the "Measuring Your Impact: Using Evaluation for Library Advocacy" class at the University of North Texas Health Science Center, Gibson D. Lewis Library, Fort Worth, TX on Tuesday May 27, 2008 from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm (with one-hour lunch
break)

Upon completion class attendees will receive 6 hours MLA CE credit.
