Purpose: Responding to mental health reference questions is challenging for even the most experienced librarian. In "Caring for the Mind," participants will learn how to effectively provide reference services for mental health information for the public. Participants will learn the best websites, databases and collection development materials to respond to mental health related questions. Handling the reference interview with care and sensitivity will be explored. The class will include both hands-on and discussion.

CE Credit: Upon successful completion of this class, each participant will receive 3 hours of continuing education credit awarded by the Medical Library Association (MLA).

A free "PubMed For Experts" class at the UNT-HSC Library is scheduled in Fort Worth on Tuesday, October 18th.

Colleague Linda King Heads to California

Our friend and colleague Linda King heads off to her home state of California. Many of her HealthLINE friends and co-workers sent her off with Texas mementos and fun gifts.

While not a strictly a HealthLINE post, I'd like to take advantage of my HealthLINE blogging power to introduce my daughter, Elise Elora. She was born August 20 at 8:16 am, weighing 6 pounds, 12 ounces and measuring 19 inches long. We're both happy and healthy, though I've forgotten what sleeping through the night is like.

SCC Travel Award

The 2005 South Central Chapter meeting will be held in Little Rock, AK October 22 - October 25.

The HealthLINE consortium offers students of library science a travel award to attend the annual meeting of the South Central Chapter of the Medical Library Association (SCC/MLA). A student is eligible to receive up to $500 to defray meeting costs. Any student enrolled for the spring or summer semesters preceding the meeting or the fall semester during which the meeting is held may qualify for this award by one of the following:
