She was born August 20 at 8:16 am, weighing 6 pounds, 12 ounces and measuring 19 inches long. We're both happy and healthy, though I've forgotten what sleeping through the night is like.

SCC Travel Award
The 2005 South Central Chapter meeting will be held in Little Rock, AK October 22 - October 25.
The HealthLINE consortium offers students of library science a travel award to attend the annual meeting of the South Central Chapter of the Medical Library Association (SCC/MLA). A student is eligible to receive up to $500 to defray meeting costs. Any student enrolled for the spring or summer semesters preceding the meeting or the fall semester during which the meeting is held may qualify for this award by one of the following:

July 21 Meeting Information
The agenda for the upcoming HealthLINE meeting at UTA has been sent out to the HealthLINE listserv. You can also find and download the agenda and minutes from the previous meeting here. Information about the educational program plus directions to the UTA library can be found below.
Eric Upchurch of UT Southwestern will present a program on Computer Security at the July 21 meeting of HealthLINE. This program offers tips in securing your computer, including operating system and application flaws, browser integrity, virus scanning, malware detection, and firewalls. This is the program given to the UT Southwestern's postdoctoral researchers. We all can benefit from Eric's expertise.

The Parlor is located on the sixth floor of UTA's Central Library. The street address of the Central Library is 702 College Street, Arlington, Texas 76019. Parking is available in the garage near the Library at no charge, but each participant will need to be sure to pick up a pass during the meeting to return to the parking garage attendant on their way out.

Exit I-30 at Cooper Street. Go south on Cooper for approximately 2 1/2 miles. Turn left at the Mitchell Street traffic light. On April 21, 2005, HealthLINE (the Dallas/Fort Worth association of medical librarians) and the School of Library and Information Studies at the University of North Texas will present a panel discussion on improving cooperation between medical libraries and library schools. HealthLINE is honored to have as members of the panel M.J. Tooey (Incoming President of Medical Library Association and Executive Director of Health Sciences and Human Services Library at the University of Maryland, Baltimore) and Roger Guard (Immediate Past Chair of the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries and Chief Information Officer, University of Cincinnati School of Medicine). The Deans of the UNT and TWU graduate library schools along with their faculty in medical librarianship will also participate. Deb Faber, a recent graduate of the TWU SLIS now working as a medical librarian, will complete the panel. Brian Bunnett will moderate. The discussion will address the future of medical librarianship, the education needed, and cooperation between library schools and libraries which employ medical librarians.
A short HealthLINE business meeting will begin at 9 am with the panel following at 10 am and ending at 12:15. After the program, a networking lunch will be offered. A sandwich bar, with salads and brownies, will cost $10.00, drinks included. At the lunch, HealthLINE will offer roundtable discussions between medical librarians and library students.
The program will be held in Sunset Room of the Gateway Center at UNT in Denton, off I35. Driving directions and parking information will follow.
Reservations are necessary for both the lunch and for parking. Parking is free. Please reply to Bobbie Long by noon, April 15th: All interested librarians and students are invited to attend.

How to get to UT Southwestern.

Parking:
Parking is not free at UT Southwestern. Costs vary from $2 to $5. When clicking on the campus map you will see that Lot 7 is reserved for visitor parking. If that lot is full then overflow parking is available at a lot near Harry Hines Boulevard and Lofland Street.
Directions to E6.200:
We will meet in the Multi Modality Education and Videoconference Center in room E6.200. The E Building (otherwise known as the Fred F. Florence Bioinformation Center) is indicated on the above campus map. E6.200 is in the same building as the Library but cannot be accessed from within the Library.
When entering the E Building you will see the Library. To the left of the Library you will see a rather large corridor. You will notice when entering this corridor that you are walking toward three rather large seals. These are not the lovable aquatic creatures that bark and balance beach balls on their snouts but rather the official seals of the state, the university, and...I don’t know what the third one is. In any event, the corridor jogs to the left at these seals. At this jog you will notice a bank of three elevators to your left. Take one of these elevators (please, only one) to the sixth floor. Upon emerging from these elevators you will see, to your right, an intersection of two corridors. There is an entrance to E6.200 at this intersection and another that is not far down the righthand corridor.
